Reflecting on the Pope’s Prayer Intention for the month of January 2025, especially through the prism of a student, has certainly opened my eyes. Pope Francis has asked us to, "pray for migrants, refugees and those affected by war, that their right to an education, which is necessary to build a better world, might always be respected."
I never imagined we would face an “education catastrophe.” We are more connected to each other than ever before, thanks to the internet, which makes knowledge and ideas easier to share.
And yet, the Holy Father is not exaggerating when he talks about the global situation of a lack of educational opportunities. Wars, migration, and poverty all contribute to this paucity of opportunities, especially among the youth. This is a harsh reality.
A good education is the foundation of a productive society, and benefits the country as a whole. As a student , I believe that education is not a privilege, but a fundamental human right that belongs to every child, every person. It is only through education that we can break the cycle of poverty. Many migrants and refugees have lost their right to education. Therefore, I believe that providing education by the host countries is essential for the personal growth of migrant communities and the advancement of society.
Education will nurture hope, open the doors to a better future and allow individuals to break the cycle of poverty and exclusion.
Let us unite in prayer and solidarity so that all those affected by war, including migrants and refugees, receive the education they need. This education will bring hope, break the cycle of poverty, and transform lives. Through education, we not only transform individuals but also foster a more inclusive, prosperous world where everyone has the opportunity to shape a better future.
Amen.
